There's A Pebble In My Shoe

A poem on self-sabotage.

There’s a pebble in my shoe

How it got there? I know not.

But it digs and fights my skin

So much so that I’ve forgot

Stones weigh down my pockets

Heavy slabs burden my shoulders

Rocks slip through my fists

Upon my back a body of boulders

My teeth, they are clenched

My fists are as well

My eyes are wide open

I’m climbing through hell

The reason I’m here is all my own fault

I neglected the gravel, the soil, the salt

The little things grew, and they became large

Of my own self, I’m no longer in charge

Burdens bear down upon me

But I will fight through

Boulders do not bother me.

There’s a pebble in my shoe.
